Menge Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant
Project Description
The Menge Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant project is located on the Göksu River which is the main tributary of Seyhan River, in Adana province in southern Türkiye.
The project involved the construction of a roller-compacted-concrete (RCC) gravity dam with an incorporated reinforced concrete water intake, and other hydraulic structures. The dam is 70 meters high from the foundation with a crest length of 390 meters. It includes an overflow spillway equipped with four (4) tainter gates, which forms an integral part of (RCC) dam, is built with reinforced concrete.
The dam was constructed entirely using the advance roller-compacted-concrete (RCC) technology with a total volume of about 380,000 m3.
The diversion and care of the river involved a tunnel excavation carried out through the right abutment of the dam site to an outer diameter of 9.5 meters with a length of 400 meters using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) and was lined with reinforced concrete to an internal diameter of 8 meters for the river diversion flow.
The contract deliverables also covered a concrete-lined surface powerhouse positioned at the foot of the dam, and the installation of two (2) vertical shaft Francis turbine-generator units and auxiliary equipment, as well as a 170 kV switchyard. Each unit delivers 42.5 MW of power, with a total capacity of 85 MW.
The project started in 2009 and was completed in 2012. The site was fully commissioned in 2013. It is owned and operated by Enerjisa Company.
